Curtis Furniture and Leeds based charity Candlelighters are currently working together on the Candlelighters cottage Project. The cottage was purchased through the fundraising efforts of Candlelighters and will be renovated by local businesses who support the charity. Candlelighters provide support for families facing children’s cancer and the cottage will provide a comfortable retreat where they can rest and recuperate. Not only that, the cottage is within walking distance of the Leeds Children’s Hospital allowing the families to stay close together.
Curtis are supporting the project by providing and fitting out all four bedrooms with furniture.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds along with members of the Candlelighters team visited Curtis Furniture for a tour of the factory and offices. On the tour they met many members of the Curtis team and were able to see furniture being manufactured in their 45,000sq ft. factory.
Andrew Reynolds the Curtis Furniture Managing Director said of the project “Curtis feel privileged to be involved with such a wonderful cause. The work that the Candlelighters team do is absolutely fantastic and as a local Leeds furniture manufacturer, we are delighted to be able to help with one of their life changing projects”
The Lord Mayor of Leeds who has a real passion for the project said “I cannot thank Curtis Furniture enough for furnishing all four bedrooms in the Candlelighters Cottage. Not only is it incredibly generous of them, the quality and finish of their furniture is second to none. The Cottage is undergoing a major refurbishment and will ultimately provide a much needed sanctuary for those families who have a child affected by cancer. Donations and support from local organisations like Curtis Furniture are invaluable for Candlelighters as they rely solely on charity funding. I would encourage any organisation or member of the public to support this very worthwhile cause.’’
Finally, Amy Harrison of Candlelighters said “It was fantastic to visit Curtis Furniture to see, and to learn more about, their beautiful furniture and how it is made. Viewing the plans and drawings of our furniture was fantastic, and we can’t wait to see it all in real life later this year. The cottage is such an important part of the service we want to offer, aiming to make life just that little bit easier for families whose child is on the ward. We are so thankful to Curtis Furniture for this incredible gift.”
